The 7 Court Targets

7ST COURT TARGET AREAS

In order to visualize and easily describe what happens during a tennis rally, the first thing that’s needed is a simple short-hand language for describing the various areas of the court where shots land.  After years of viewing tennis matches at every level of play, we have found that it’s best to think of the court as comprising seven Target Areas.

The seven Target areas are identified by the numbers shown in the above court diagram.

The arrows associated with Target Areas #4, #5 and #6 indicate not just the area of the court in which the ball lands, but also the general direction that the ball was travelling when it landed.
