The “1” target extends halfway from the service line to the net, between the two “singles alleys”.
The “2” target extends halfway from the service line to the base line, between the two “singles alleys”.
The “3” target extends halfway from the base line to the service line, between the two “singles alleys”.
The “4” target extends halfway from the base line to the service line, inside each of the “singles alleys”. Shots to the “4” are angled shots and do not include “down-the-line” shots.
The “5” targets extend from halfway between the base line and the service line to halfway between the service line and the net, inside each of the “singles alleys”. Shots to the “5” are angled shots and do not include “down-the-line” shots.
The “6” targets extend from the base line to halfway between the service line and the net, inside each of the “singles alleys”. Shots to the “6” are “down-the-line” shots and do not include angled shots.
The “7” target –(also known as the “Touch Zone”)– extends halfway from the net to the service line, between the two sidelines.
The “T” serve target area is about one standard tennis racket length wide and about two standard tennis racket lengths long, at the T-intersection of the two service boxes.
The “body” service target area is about one standard tennis racket length (27″) deep, and extends between the “T” service target area and the “Corner” service target area, along the service line.
The “Corner” serve target is about one standard tennis racket length (27″) wide and about two standard racket lengths (54″) deep, at the intersection of the service line and the singles sideline.
The “Wide” service target area is about one standard tennis racket length (27″) wide and two standard tennis racket lengths (54″) deep, extending from the end of the “Corner” serve target, along the “singles sideline”
“Bucket” serves are serves that are neither “T”, “Body”, “Corner” nor “Wide” serves, but that generally land in the central area of the service box.
The “Deep” tactical position is that area behind the court that is closer to the back fence/wall than to the baseline.
The “Neutral” tactical position extends from the base line halfway back to the back wall/fence (behind the court).
The “Maneuver” tactical position extends from the “Neutral” tactical position to about one racket length inside the baseline.
The “Attack” tactical position extends from the “Maneuver” position (about a racket length inside the base line), halfway to the net.
The “Conclude” tactical position extends from the net to the “Attack” position… about a racket length inside the service line.
